History and Impact

Our history begins with the start of Agape Mission

Since the start of Agape Mission in September 2009, God has implanted in Rev. Peter T. Mang the vision of multiplying healthy disciples, churches, and leaders in every community in Myanmar. Prior to serving as a church planter, he served as an itinerant evangelist in Ayeyarwady Region for 2 years from 2009 to 2011.

In early 2011, Peter was called to plant a multisite church with house churches meeting in multiple locations, with a strong and healthy disciple making culture that will multiply healthy disciples and churches across Yangon. After much prayer, with a deep conviction of God’s call to church planting, in September 2011, he had the direction from God to start a new church plant in Hlaingthayar, Yangon.

Launch of Agape Church Planting

Agape Church Planting was started in September 2011 at the initiative of Agape Mission, with the purpose of multiplying healthy disciples, churches, and leaders in every community in Myanmar.

After much prayer and having received confirmation, on September 6, 2011, Peter and his family moved to Hlaingthayar to plant and grow healthy churches that multiply. They lived and served on personal support and with the generous support of ministry partners who shared their God-given vision and believed in their mission. Pursuing God’s calling for their lives, a church planting movement was started from a humble beginning.

Launch of Agape Church Yangon

We launched our first church plant on Sunday, September 23, 2012, at a rented 2-story house in 13 Quarter, Hlaingthayar. In September 2013, we moved to a rented apartment in 6 Quarter, Hlaingthayar. The rented apartment was closed a few months later due to religious restraints.

Since then, we adapted our church planting strategy to a multisite church with house churches meeting in multiple locations to engage, equip, and empower every disciple to multiply healthy disciples, churches, and leaders everywhere.

Our Impact

In June 2009, our founder Rev. Peter T. Mang began to serve as an itinerant Evangelist, sharing the gospel with unreached people in remote villages and cities across Ayeyarwady Region. In September 2011, he transitioned to pursue God’s call to church planting and started planting house churches in Yangon.

Launch of Church Planting Movement

In September 2011, the first simple church planting movement was launched at a rented tiny house in Hlaingthayar, Yangon. We started our first discipleship group Bible study with two families.

When we launched our first church plant in Hlaingtharyar, our attendees were just a small group of 12 people. We are committed to seeing a church grow and multiply. A new church plant grew from a small group of people meeting in a house church and providing family discipleship through Bible study once a week, to making disciples who make disciples and planting healthy churches that multiply. In the first five years from 2011 – 2016, we expanded into 7 new places and started disciple groups and house churches in each community in Hlaingthayar.

Agape Church in Insein

At Agape Church, we envisioned a healthy church in every community in Yangon Region. As a biblically independent church with a strong and healthy disciple making culture, we strive to plant and grow healthy churches that multiply healthy disciples, churches, and leaders across Insein.

In April 2016, we launched a church planting initiative in Insein to plant and grow healthy churches that multiply healthy disciples and churches everywhere.

In February 2019, we formed a Church Planting Network with the purpose of strengthening leaders, mobilizing churches, and multiplying churches to accelerate church planting in Myanmar.

In 2020, we launched Agape Vision 2030 Church Planting Initiative to establish 300 healthy churches among unreached people in Myanmar by the end of 2030.

Launch of the Association of Independent Churches of Myanmar

In May 2022, we formed the Association of Independent Churches of Myanmar, a voluntary association of independent churches working together to accelerate church planting movements in Myanmar.

From 2016 – 2022, Agape Church Plants expanded into new places and multiplied over 10 disciple groups and house churches.

In January 2023, Rev. Peter T. Mang transitioned from pastoral ministry with Agape Church Yangon to leading a church planting organization with Agape Church Planting.

In February 2023, we formed a church planting team comprised of the Board of Directors and the Executive Team at Agape Church Planting.

Launch of Agape Vision 2030

Launched in 2020, the Agape Vision 2030 enacted a strategic vision for the Church Planting Initiative to establish 300 healthy churches among unreached people in Myanmar by the end of 2030.

Agape Vision 2030 was officially started in February 2023 as we formed a church planting team to launch Church Planting Initiative.

Agape Vision 2030 is extended to Agape Vision 2033.

Agape Vision 2033

Church planting initiative that aims to establish 300 healthy churches among unreached people in Myanmar by the end of 2033

We envision a movement of disciples who make disciples, churches that multiply churches, and leaders who develop leaders to accelerate the fulfillment of the Great Commission in our generation.

Our passion is to glorify God by creating healthy and thriving communities of fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ through multiplying healthy disciples, churches, and leaders in every community in Myanmar.

We provide a strategic approach to evangelism, discipleship, church planting, leadership development, mission mobilization, and community development to accelerate church planting among unreached people in Myanmar.
